I’m a technology-communications consultant whose experience includes over 25 years in technical documentation and technical marketing communications management and development. As well, I’ve written for general interest and business publications. You can also find me on William Gargan on Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn. Here’s an almost-recent piece I wrote for The Raleigh News & Observer on NC’s last-place ranking in households with high-speed Internet connectivity.
Over the years, I’ve created and managed communications programs and publications for companies in various industries — information technology (my focus), retail, automotive, real estate, banking and finance, and others. My client list includes IBM, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Zift Solutions, Volvo Trucks, NA, Volvo Group, QSP Financial Information Systems, Tompkins International, First Union Corporation, Harris Teeter, Inc., Ruddick Corporation, Ericsson Inc. and many other well-known (and no longer known) companies and nonprofits.
My “writing life” has included publishing book reviews, feature articles, op-ed columns and “occasional” pieces in many newspapers and magazines, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, North Carolina Magazine, Business: North Carolina, Bank Financial Management International (a Lafferty Group publication), Triangle Business Journal, The Charlotte Observer, the Raleigh News & Observer, The Chapel Hill News, The Herald-Sun (Durham, NC), The Greensboro News and Record, The Winston-Salem Journal and Globetrotter (a Volvo Group publication).
Henry Gargan writes many of the Grammar Diaries and Editorial Style entries in Words & Technology and is responsible for helping to develop and maintain the look-and-feel of this publication.
Henry is a Senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel HIll, pursuing a double major in Journalism and Global Studies. He is the Editorial Page Editor for The Daily Tar Heel. This summer (2015) he will work as a Dow Jones News Fund Graduate Intern at Newsday.
Henry also writes a weekly column for The Chapel Hill News. Henry has also published columns, features and news stories for the News & Observer, Thrill City, Lacrosse Magazine and many other publications.
Henry is also an Eagle Scout and accomplished singer and bassist. He was awarded a scholarship by Outward Bound for Summer 2013, spending part of his Summer break hiking, climbing and otherwise mountaineering in the Appalachian Mountains. (Makes my life seem pretty boring doesn’t he!).
